Plastic in the Oceans – A talk by Dr Simon Boxall
Plastic in the Oceans – Just embarrassing or an environmental time bomb? A talk by Dr Simon Boxall, Ocean and Earth Science, Southampton University
There has been an increasing interest in the media in recent years over plastics in our oceans. One of the challenges for scientists is estimating the amount of plastic out there and how much of a problem it poses. Is it like roughage, passing through animals that digest it, or can it lead to an increase in toxicity and even the extinction of some species? Whatever the answer we are stuck with this pollution for centuries to come and it affects all our seas, from Lyme Regis to the Antarctic, with no easy way of removing it.
